This page documents the process of building Weidu Fanling / 未读凡灵 in the open.
It is not a success theatre page. It is a trail.
Here you’ll find notes on hosting, IndieWeb experiments, domain names, creative releases, field notes, Ghost Radio, YouTube transmissions, songs, and anything else that comes up as the project evolves.

Site Founded
The first public layer of Weidu Fanling was the site itself.
The domain was registered, Micro.blog became the publishing engine, and the project began taking shape as something that could exist outside the main platform feeds.
At this stage, the principle was simple:
Start small. Own the address. Publish there first. Share elsewhere after.
The site did not need to be finished to become real.
It only needed to begin.
Core Manifesto Written
The core manifesto, Weidu Fanling / 未读凡灵, was written as the first attempt to name the project’s centre.
The phrase began gathering several meanings at once: unread ghosts, ordinary evidence, misread lives, overlooked people, dyslexia, low-visibility signals, and the strange feeling of existing inside systems that scan everything but understand very little.
The manifesto gave the project its first stable shape.
Not a brand.
Not a band name.
A field of attention.
Naming Shift
The project pivoted away from earlier naming possibilities, including the old band-name frame and alternatives such as After the Centre.
That shift mattered.
The work no longer felt like it wanted to sit inside the usual music-project container. It needed a name large enough to hold songs, field notes, AI questions, misread lives, ordinary ghosts, future folk fragments, and the recurring question of what kind of world the feed is training us to become.
Weidu Fanling became that container.
Rough, coined, unstable, but alive enough to continue.
Public Site Launched
The site was launched, pages were added, and the public trail began.
This was the first practical movement from private project to public architecture.
The work could now have somewhere to live.
Not just a channel.
Not just a profile.
Not just a feed.
A small home signal.
The Address Fought Back
The first lesson of Weidu Fanling was not poetic.
It was DNS.
Before there was music, radio, field notes, or any clean public shape, there was a long stretch of small technical friction: registrar panels, domain records, Micro.blog settings, screenshots, waiting, refreshing, doubting, and wondering whether a supposedly simple IndieWeb beginning had become more complicated than a normal website.
That frustration belongs in the record.
A home outside the feed still has to pass through the machinery of the existing web. Even a small independent site has to negotiate with registrars, dashboards, help pages, hosting rules, and invisible propagation delays. The romance of owning an address meets the reality of infrastructure.
But the address now exists.
weidufanling.au is not a platform handle. It is not a rented profile inside someone else’s feed. It is a small public co-ordinate. The site can be rough, incomplete, strange, and unfinished, but the first layer is real.
The build principle remains simple:
Start small. Own the address. Publish there first. Share elsewhere after.
The feed can still see the work, but it no longer owns the only doorway.
A Coined Name for Misread Beings
The name needed correction.
Weidu Fanling / 未读凡灵 was first treated too confidently, as if it translated cleanly into ordinary Chinese.
It does not.
That matters.
The better way to describe it is as a coined project name inspired by three ideas:
- 未读 - unread
- 凡 - ordinary, earthly, mortal
- 灵 - spirit, presence, subtle being, ghost, intelligence
So the name is not standard Mandarin in the ordinary sense.
It is an invented threshold word.
That may be more honest, and more fitting.
Weidu Fanling points toward unread ghosts, ordinary evidence, misread lives, dyslexia, low-visibility signals, overlooked people, and the strange feeling of existing inside systems that scan everything but understand very little.
The correction does not kill the name.
It sharpens it.
A misread name for misread beings.
That is now part of the architecture.
Ghost Radio Appears
The Ghost Radio page is the first working transmission layer.
It is not meant to behave like a commercial radio station. It is not FM, not pirate radio proper, not a platform playlist, and not a monetised feed trap. It is a small browser-safe page where sound can arrive one track after another, after the listener chooses to press play.
That distinction matters.
No autoplay.
No ambush.
No coercion.
The visitor has to begin the signal.
Ghost Radio is the musical limb of Weidu Fanling: original audio, ordinary evidence from a small planet, fragments from the edge of the feed, and songs that may not belong cleanly inside any one genre.
It can hold folk, hip hop, post-rock, spoken word, electronic scars, strange ritual, rap, quiet grief, algorithmic unease, and the recurring question:
What wolf do we feed?
The page does not need to be perfect yet.
It only needs to transmit.
From Feed to Field
The purpose of Weidu Fanling is not to abandon the platforms entirely.
That would be unrealistic, and perhaps unnecessary.
The purpose is to change the order of dependence.
Instead of creating everything for the feed first, the work now has a field of its own. YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Bandcamp, SoundCloud, Micro.blog, Bluesky, and whatever comes next can become outward paths rather than the centre of gravity.
The site is the field.
The platforms are weather.
That distinction changes the psychology of publishing. A post no longer succeeds only because an algorithm carries it. A song or message no longer fails only because the view count is low. A page can sit quietly and still be part of the structure.
This is why the Build Log exists.
Not to perform success.
To leave evidence.
Ordinary evidence.
Unread evidence.
A public trail showing how a small independent signal tried to become less dependent on the machinery that sorts, ranks, hides, rewards, and forgets.
Weidu Fanling does not need to arrive fully formed.
It only needs to keep becoming findable.
YouTube Channel Activated
The Weidu Fanling / 未读凡灵 YouTube channel is now active.
The first visible body of the project is audiovisual: wolf songs, Harmonious Growth episodes, visual fragments, strange signals, and short transmissions.
This is not being treated as a normal content channel.
The channel is the moving signal layer.
The website remains the home archive.
The current operating structure is:
- weidufanling.au - home, archive, build log, field notes
- YouTube - audiovisual transmissions
- Bluesky - short outward signal bursts
- Micro.blog - publishing layer and site engine
The aim is not to chase the feed, but to place signals inside it without letting the feed decide what the project is.
Wolf Cycle Begun
The What Wolf Do We Feed? cycle has begun.
The wolf versions are not remixes in the ordinary sense.
They are temperament studies.
Each one asks the same question through a different element, body, atmosphere, or machine state.
Current wolf forms include:
- Fire
- Air
- Wood
- Water
- Ground
- Underground
- Æther
The working rule is simple:
The wolf is not the enemy.
The wolf is the appetite.
The work is to notice what is being fed.
Ghost Radio Drafted
Version 1 of Weidu Fanling Radio / 未读凡灵 Radio has been drafted.
The goal is a legal website-based ghost radio page, not FM/AM transmission and not pirate broadcasting.
The page is designed to work as a static web audio player using HTML, CSS and JavaScript only.
Core features:
- original hosted audio files only
- no autoplay until the listener presses play
- play/pause
- next
- now transmitting display
- editable playlist
- time-based mode so the page is broadcasting continuously
- no backend
- no database
- no paid radio-hosting service
- no analytics
- no trackers
The radio is an underground signal, while remaining technically simple, legal and low-cost.
Site as Source of Truth
The project now has several outward surfaces, but the website remains the source of truth.
This matters because feeds reward motion, but archives preserve meaning.
A video can disappear into the scroll.
A post can be swallowed by the day.
A site can hold the shape.
Weidu Fanling / 未读凡灵 is being built as a slow archive of songs, field notes, ordinary ghosts, AI questions, wolf signals and future sonic fragments.
The project may move through algorithms, but it should not be authored by them.
